Venezuela: Where the golfers have no shame

It's one thing for a diplomat posted to a country with high homicide rates to be concerned of getting knifed or kidnapped on the mean streets (one can take precautions to limit the risk of that), but quite another to be fearful of getting hit by a stray golf ball and dying (embarrassingly) right there on the spot (considering wearing a helmet outdoors is a no-no according to diplomatic decorum). Just ask the Swiss ambassador in Venezuela who had to remind local golfers recklessly swinging their clubs just outside her residence about the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic relations. And what's even more disconcerting is that these menacing golfers who have been accused in the past by Hugo Chavez himself of being capitalist elitists, enemies of the Chavism and opponents of the Bolivarian ideals, are now turning against such the Swiss, an elitist's heaven on earth.
